Dear Baby Sense Mums and Dads
Amazing Baby
Not a day goes by when my work with babies doesn’t fascinate and excite me. I have discovered some incredible facts about nature and how amazing we are as nurturers for our babies. Here is what I have learnt.
- Mother's heart beat. Did you know 80% of mums hold their baby on the left side? You might argue that the majority of women are right handed so hold their baby on the left so that they have their dominant hand free. If you think that, you would be wrong. The research shows that 83% of right handed women hold their baby on the left and 78% of left handed women do too! Why? Because our heart is on the left – we naturally hold our baby so as to give them the soothing sounds of the heartbeat. We believe that babies are imprinted on the rhythm of the heartbeat – approximately 72 beats per minute. And the research shows that babies, who were played a heartbeat at 72 beats per minute, were calmer, gained more weight and fell asleep in half the time of the ones who weren’t! AMAZING nature.
- Mother's eyes. Another fascinating fact is that newborns straight out of the womb, exhibit little saccades (eye movements) until their eye’s lock on their mum and then they stop moving their eyes and settle immediately. Babies can see in focus 20-23cm at birth – and guess how far their mum’s breast is from her eyes 23cm on average. In other words our babies see the exact distance needed for locking their eyes with their mum at birth! We are wonderfully made!
- Skin to skin. Did you know that you are the ultimate human incubator? When newborns or premature babies are placed skin to skin (naked) on their mother’s chest, they can be cared for as well as (if not better) than in any man made incubator. If your baby is cool when placed on your chest, your amazing body will rush warm blood to your chest so that you can increase the temperature of your baby. Left for an hour on your chest at birth, with no intervention, your baby will move to find the nipple and latch on her own!
It blows me away sometimes how amazing we are and what incredible capabilities our babies have. As mums or dads, your work is your little baby, don't you find that not a day goes by when your work doesn’t fascinate and excite you?
We wish you all many Happy Days and Peaceful Nights.
MEG FAURE
NEWS
Megan Faure visited the UK at the end of June and presented a workshop to NCT specialist workers on “Womb to World” at the NCT conference in Swansea. Thank you to all those who attended the workshop. The feedback has been amazing. Our most popular products sold at the conference were the Baby Sense Book , Sleep Sense , the Baby Sense Cuddlewraps and Baby Sense Slings .
Our Facebook page grows every day. We are so happy with how many of you have joined and the interaction, questions and comments we are getting from you all. If you haven’t joined our Facebook page yet do so in July . This month we are choosing one of our Facebook Joinees at Random to win a Baby Sense Sleep Hamper. Make sure you are in with a chance of winning.
Each month on Facebook you can take our online poll. Last month we asked you “When did your baby start to sleep through?” The results were surprising with 21% of you saying that their baby has never slept through. We were pleased to note though that 47% of your babies were sleeping through within the first 6 months, whilst 24% took up to a year before they slept through. 8% of parents are still struggling with toddlers between 1 and 2 that still wake each night. At Baby Sense we know mum knows best and so we really would like your opinion on whether we should keep the car seat compatibility feature of our Slumber Sac. Take our Facebook Poll for July and let us know what you think.
So many of you recommend Baby Sense and its products to your friends. We would like to thank and reward you for this. Recommend a friend and receive a £5 gift voucher for your next order over £30. Ask your friend to put your name and email address in the notes section of their order.
